2014 Homicide in Champaign - Posted 11-13-23

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a homicide. On November 17, 2014, at approximately 10:00 p.m., Damian Henderson was believed to be shot and killed in the 0-100 block of Forsythia Drive in Champaign. The following morning, November 18, 2014, at 8:13 a.m., officers were dispatched to this location for a check welfare where Henderson was found unresponsive in a vehicle with an apparent gunshot wound.
Investigators have followed multiple leads over the past several years and are continuing to seek the public’s assistance with locating any additional information related to the individual(s) involved in this incident.
Use of stolen debit cards - Posted 11/06 / 2023

Local police departments are investigating several reports from the U of I Community Credit Union of customer’s accounts being compromised, and funds accessed. Each victim remained in possession of their respective UICCU debit/credit cards. The accounts were accessed through ATMs located primarily in CVS drugstores in Mahomet, Champaign, Savoy, Urbana, and Rantoul.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect captured on video after one of the thefts. The suspect appeared to be a white male with a goatee, approximately 30-40 years old. He was last seen wearing a blue adidas ballcap, blue jacket, khaki pants, and dark shoes.

Retail Theft in Champaign - Posted 10/23/23

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a retail theft.
On October 2, 2023, at approximately 7:38 p.m., three females entered Kohl’s at 109 Convenience Center Road in Champaign. The females split up briefly then two of them met up and relocated to the jewelry department. One female had keys and unlocked a fine jewelry display case, and the females loaded numerous jewelry items into a purse. The two females then moved to the fragrance department, unlocked a drawer, and stole several bottles of perfume/cologne. The two females exited the store then reentered and proceeded to the jewelry department where they met up with the third female. They again unlocked a jewelry display case, and the three females stole several more items. The trio fled in a silver sedan with merchandise valued at $24,053.00.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects captured on video. The suspects were described as black females between 35-40 years old. The first female was last seen wearing a white shirt and black shorts. The second female had long black/blonde braided hair and was wearing a navy blue floral scrub top and navy blue pants. The third female was wearing a white ballcap, black facemask, pink shirt, and white shorts.
Aggravated Battery in Urbana - Posted 10-16-23

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding an aggravated battery. On September 3rd at 11:05 a.m., police officers responded to the Crystal Lake Park Family Aquatic Center in Urbana for an aggravated battery report. Responding officers learned the suspect became agitated when she was not allowed to bring an outside beverage into the facility. The suspect made threatening comments and used inappropriate language in the presence of other patrons of the swimming facility. Based on the suspect's behavior, she was asked to leave the property. After being asked to leave, the suspect pushed an employee, threw her stainless-steel cup in the employees' direction, and threatened to fight the same employee. There were several witnesses to this incident and based on conversations heard prior to the battery, they
believed the suspect was possibly from the Tuscola area. The suspect was described as a white female approximately 27-35 years old, light brown hair, 5'06-5'08 and 165-190 lbs. The suspect was wearing a black swimsuit cover, black sandals, and large framed sunglasses with clear stones. She was seen leaving the property in a bronze SUV, possibly a GMC Acadia or Buick Enclave.
Armed Home Invasion in Rantoul - Posted 10/09/2023

On October 2, 2023, at approximately 10:45 p.m., officers responded to the 100 block of North Chanute Street in Rantoul for a reported armed home invasion. The victims reported two, unknown race males had entered the residence armed with handguns. One suspect was reported to have watched over the occupants while the second suspect rummaged through the residence. One victim received a laceration to the head from being struck by a suspect.
Both suspects were described as males wearing facemasks, gloves, and black pants. One suspect was described as wearing a black shirt, the other wearing a black vest, and one spoke Spanish and one spoke English. The suspects fled with US Currency, jewelry, and various items of personal property.

Shooting Investigation in Champaign - Posted 10/02/2023

On September 24, 2023, at approximately 2:24 a.m., Champaign Police responded to the 200 block of North Neil Street for a report of a shooting with injuries. Upon arrival, officers located an 18-year-old female and 25- year-old male, both from Texas, with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. Both were transported by ambulance to a local hospital. A third gunshot victim with non-life-threatening injuries, a 25-year-old male from Indiana, arrived at the hospital a short time later by personal vehicle. All three victims continue to recover from their injuries.
Police are asking any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance cameras and/or persons with cell phone video to review the footage for any suspicious persons or vehicles captured in the area around the time of the incident. It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance.
Retail Theft in Champaign - Posted 9/25/23

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a retail theft. On September 12, 2023, at approximately 5:35 p.m., a male entered Target, located at 2102 North Prospect Avenue in Champaign. The subject selected numerous items and proceeded to the exit making no attempt to pay for the merchandise. The suspect was reported to be a repeat offender at both the Champaign and Campustown Target locations. The total loss for both locations is over $1000.00.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect captured on video. The suspect was described as a white male, 35-44 years old. He had long brown hair pulled into a ponytail and tattoos on his arms and legs. The suspect fled the area in a blue sedan.
Burglary in Champaign - Posted 9/18/23

This week Crime Stoppers is seeking information concerning a burglary. On July 2, 2023, at 11:53 p.m., a female came into the University of Illinois Veterinary Medicine Small Animal Clinic with an injured animal. The female left the building and returned moments later with a large bag. The female was then observed on camera stealing a donation box for the clinic that contained cash donations. The female placed the donation box in her bag and left the clinic. Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect, who was described as a black female, heavy build, with long black hair (possibly fake), a nose ring, and a tattoo on her left arm

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a shooting.
On September 3, 2023, at approximately 12:07 a.m., police responded to the 1200 block of Providence Circle in Champaign for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers learned two masked subjects drove up in a white or beige SUV and the passenger discharged a firearm. Several shell casings were located, and five vehicles were damaged by gunfire.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the vehicle and subjects involved in the shooting. The suspects were both described as black males. The first male was described as wearing a ballcap and mask, and the second wearing a full-face mask.
Police are asking anyone in the nearby area with exterior surveillance cameras and/or persons with cell phone video to review the footage for any suspicious persons or vehicles captured in the area around the time of the incident. It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance.

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a deceptive practice.
On August 24, 2023, police responded to the Walgreens at 302 East University Avenue in Urbana for a deceptive practice report that occurred the previous evening. Responding officers learned the suspect entered Walgreens on August 23, 2023, at approximately 7:14 p.m., to make a paper money deposit into a Cash App account. The suspect handed five $100 bills to the cashier assisting with the transaction. The store later learned the bills were counterfeit.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect captured on surveillance video. The suspect was described as a light-skinned black male with a medium build and short hair. He wore a multi-colored hooded jacket, blue jeans, and white tennis shoes. The male drove from Walgreens in a gray four-door sedan with black wheels.

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a retail theft.
On April 24, 2023, at approximately 5:56 p.m., three subjects entered Old Navy in Market Place Shopping Center at 2000 North Neil Street in Champaign. The suspects selected numerous clothing items and stacked them in a staging area at the back of the store. One suspect then distracted an employee while the other two concealed the items on their persons and in a stolen bag. The trio left the store with over $800.00 in stolen merchandise.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects captured on video. The suspects were described as two black females and one black male. One female was seen wearing a pink sherpa-type jacket and blue shorts. The second female was wearing a silver puffer coat and black pants. The male was wearing a blue denim jacket, white shirt, and black pants. They fled the area in a grayish green SUV.
Credit Card Fraud in Champaign - Posted 8/21/23

This week Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a credit card fraud.
On June 7 & 8, 2023,, an unknown male made numerous fraudulent ATM transactions at two Champaign Chase Bank locations. The suspect made forty-four transactions between the 301 S Mattis Ave. and 201 W University Ave. locations. The suspect made an additional transaction at the Champaign Meijer Gas Station. In total, the suspect stole more than $7,400.
Per surveillance video, the suspect appears to be a black male with a full beard. He is approximately 25-40 years old with a medium build.

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers and the Champaign Police Department are seeking the public's assistance in identifying the suspect in a theft which occurred on July 9, 2023 in the 600 block of North Neil Street.
The suspect appeared to be a black male with short hair. He was last seen wearing a pink/white/gray striped long-sleeve shirt, black pants, and light-colored shoes. He was carrying an orange/black backpack and riding a black and red bicycle.

On June 23, 2023, at approximately 12:00 p.m., a male suspect entered an office at the Activities and Recreational Center, located at 201 East Peabody Drive in Champaign, and stole a wallet and its contents. The suspect fled in a gray or silver Buick sedan with tinted windows and a sunroof. Soon after at approximately 1:50 p.m., the suspect attempted to purchase items with the victim’s stolen credit card at Best Buy in Champaign.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect captured on video. The suspect appeared to be a dark-skinned black male approximately 30-40 years old, 5’11” to 6’3” tall, and weighing 175 to 200 lbs. He was last seen wearing a black Chicago White Sox pinstripe cap, black t-shirt, distressed bleach-washed blue jeans, and white gym shoes.

Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a shooting incident.
On July 17, 2023, at approximately 9:46 p.m., deputies from the Champaign County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the Loral Mobile Home Park in Urbana Township for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, deputies learned two unknown subjects exited a dark colored SUV in the 100 block of Fern Street and discharged firearms towards the backside of a residence in the 400 block of Beeson Drive. The suspects then fled the area in the same vehicle. Damage to at least one residence was reported and shell casings were recovered from the scene.
Deputies seek the public’s assistance in identifying the vehicle used in the shooting as well as the two subjects captured on video. The first subject appears to be an unknown race male, last seen wearing light colored, possibly white or gray, pants and sweatshirt with the hood up. The second subject appears to be an unknown race male, last seen wearing all black clothing.

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a residential burglary.
On July 3, 2023, police officers responded to the 600 block of West Elm Street in Urbana, for a residential burglary report. Responding officers learned the suspect(s) entered the house and took property belonging to the residents. On July 10, 2023, a male subject attempted to pawn some of the stolen property. The pawn shop declined to purchase the property when the suspect presented a false identification card.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect captured on video. The male attempting to pawn the stolen property was described as a black male, medium build with long dreadlocks. He wore a black shirt with white Adidas print on the front.

On June 11, 2023, at approximately 3:44 a.m., a male subject entered an unsecured door at Soma Ultralounge located at 320 North Neil Street in Champaign. Once inside, the subject pried open two cash registers damaging the machines. The male stole multiple items and fled with an undisclosed amount of money. Hours later, at approximately 8:21 a.m., the male returned with a second male, and they stole over $4,000.00 worth of alcohol.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects captured on video. The first suspect was described as a black male with shoulder-length dread-style hair and a full beard. He was last seen wearing a hat, t-shirt, and sweatpants, and he returned wearing a black Illinois sweatshirt and camouflage shorts. The second suspect was described as a black male, approximately 50 years old with a shaved head, glasses, and a full gray beard. He had a sleeve tattoo on his left arm and was wearing a black t-shirt and shorts.

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding a theft and credit card fraud.
On June 21, 2023, at approximately 10:50 a.m., an unknown subject(s) stole a wallet from a purse while the victim shopped at Meijer, located at 2401 North Prospect Avenue in Champaign. Within minutes two subjects used the victim’s credit cards to purchase large amounts of gift cards from Sam’s Club. The subjects left with an undisclosed amount of gift cards.
Police seek the public’s assistance in identifying two subjects captured on video. The first subject appeared to be a white male, last seen wearing a black ballcap, black Jordan t-shirt, light-colored jeans, and carrying a black backpack. The second subject appeared to be a white female with long dark hair, glasses, and was wearing a white pinstriped long-sleeved shirt.
Aggravated Battery and Mob Action in Champaign - Posted 06/26/23

This week Champaign County Crime Stoppers is seeking assistance from the public regarding an aggravated battery and mob action incident reported at 306 E. Green St. in Champaign.
On May 7, 2023, at 12:14 AM, seven unknown males were being disorderly in the Campustown area. One of the unknown males approached a male and female walking on Green St and began verbally antagonizing them. The female reported to law enforcement that the unknown male’s actions were uncomfortable, and she felt unsafe. The male defended the female by pushing the unknown male away from them. The 7 unknown males then repeatedly battered the male. The male suffered multiple injuries to the face, head, and ribs. One of the unknown males revealed a firearm holstered in his belt line and threatened the male. The 7 unknown males left the area, and the victim was taken to a local hospital by ambulance.
The seven unknown subjects were described as:
Offender 1 – A light skinned black male wearing a long sleeve grey hoodie. The sweater had black writing in the center. The male was wearing black pants with a ‘rip’ style on the right front knee area of the pants, as well as white and grey Nike shoes with a Black Nike ‘swoosh’ logo. The male had what appeared as a thick, short, afro style or ‘dreads’ haircut. The male had what appeared as a light blue surgical mask under his chin.
Offender 2 - A light skinned black male wearing a long sleeve black sweater. The sweater had a large yellow logo in the middle of a ‘smiley face’ melting. The image had an unknown word behind it starting with the letter ‘R’. The male wore black pants, light brown boots, and had a black satchel across his body. The male wore a black hat and had what appeared as the tips of a ‘dread’ style hair cut hanging from the bottom of the hat.
Offender 3 – A light skin complexion male (possibly Hispanic) wearing a dark hoodie with a white logo of the words “Jordan” and a large “23”. The male wore light blue pants with a ‘ripped’ style, as well as black shoes with a white base and red shoelaces. The male’s hood was over his head, and his hair was not visible.
Offender 4 – A dark skinned black male wearing a dark hoodie with the hood over his head. The male appeared to wear dark pants or dark sweatpants. The male was wearing black shoes with white bases.
Offender 5- A dark skinned black male with large shoulder length ‘dread’ style hair. The male wore a dark “Letterman” jacket that had a dark colored base and white sleeves. The jacket had what appeared as an orange “La” on the left side. The male had on a white shirt underneath it. The male wore dark colored pants and white shoes.
Offender 6 – A black male wearing a red hoodie, black and white pants, and grey shoes.
Offender 7 – A black male wearing a dark blue hoodie, blue jeans, brown shoes, and a blue backpack.
Police are asking any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance cameras and/or persons with cell phone video to review the footage for any suspicious persons or vehicles captured in the area around the time of the incident. Shooting in the City of Champaign - Posted 06/20/2023

On June 11, 2023, at approximately 3:35 a.m., Champaign Police were dispatched to the 1000 block of North Sixth Street for a report of a shooting with injuries and multiple traffic collisions. Upon arrival, officers found several victims with gunshot wounds and began to render medical aid until an ambulance could arrive. At the same time, additional victims arrived at an area hospital. In all, four individuals were struck by gunfire and two were struck by vehicles related to this incident. Details on the victims are as follows:
Victim #1: A 17-year-old male suffered a life-threatening gunshot wound to the head.
Victim #2: A 29-year-old male suffered a single gunshot wound to the leg.
Victim #3: A 27-year-old male from Urbana suffered a single gunshot wound to the arm.
Victim #4: A 23-year-old male from Urbana suffered a graze wound to the ear.
Victim #5: A 22-year-old female was injured in a motor vehicle collision.
Victim #6: A 23-year-old female was injured in a motor vehicle collision.
On scene, officers learned that a large crowd had formed for an impromptu gathering when an unknown subject opened fire. Immediately, a very chaotic scene erupted when multiple vehicles attempted to quickly leave the area, causing at least three collisions with injuries. Multiple parked vehicles were damaged and at least one residence struck by gunfire.
