Champaign Police investigators are seeking information regarding an incident of aggravated battery that took place on Saturday, August 25th, shortly after midnight.
Officers responded to a fight at a house party in the 600 block of south State Street. Upon arrival, officers observed the male victim, who was unconcious and bleeding from the head. According to witnesses, the victim had been punched by another male who was attending the same party. The victim fell from a retaining wall (approximately two feet tall) and landed on his head on the concrete sidewalk.
The victim was transported by ambulance to a local hospital and is currently hospitalized with a brain injury resulting from the aggravated battery.
The suspect is described as a dark-skinned black male, 6’0” tall, muscular build, short hair, wearing a striped shirt and baggy pants. The suspect possibly goes by the nickname or street name of “Mellow D”.

The Champaign Police Department and Crime Stoppers are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying three female suspects in a case involving credit card fraud.
The victim reported that he misplaced his debit card on Tuesday, July 10th. On July 11th and 12th, the debit card was used by three unidentified female suspects to make fraudulent transactions at local FedEx, CVS Pharmacy, Dollar General, and Wal-Mart stores.
According to store surveillance video, the suspects consist of two black females and 1 white female. If you have any information regarding the identities and/or whereabouts of the suspects, please contact the Champaign Police Department or Crimestoppers.
The Champaign Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance regarding recent thefts of catalytic converters from vehicles.
Between the dates of July 27th and August 10th, twenty catalytic converters were removed from vehicles at various businesses. All of these thefts occurred overnight when the businesses were closed. The vehicles targeted have been box trucks and vans (Ford, Chevy, and Dodge).
Surveillance video showed the possible suspect vehicle was a white 1992-1998 Honda or similar type vehicle.

The Urbana Police Department and Champaign Police Department are investigating three armed robberies, which occurred within two hours of each other. The incidents are believed to be related, due to similarities in suspect descriptions and the methods used by the suspects in committing the robberies.
Incident #1: The first robbery occurred on Tuesday, August 7th, at approximately 10:59 p.m., in the area of Chalmers Street and Oak Street in Champaign. The victim was approached by male suspect #1 on a BMX-style bicycle. The victim was told to stop, and the suspect put a handgun to the side of the victim’s head. The suspect then told a second male (suspect #2) to empty the victim’s pockets. The suspects took the victim’s cell phone and wallet, and were last observed riding their bicycles northbound in the alley between Chalmers Street and Oak Street.
Incident #2: The second robbery occurred on Tuesday, August 7th, at approximately 11:32 p.m. The victim was walking near the area of Birch Street and Oregon Street in Urbana. He advised he was talking on his cell phone and did not notice anyone near or following him. A male suspect riding a beige-colored bicycle rode in front of him, jumped off of the bicycle, and pointed a gun in the victim’s face. He ordered the victim to give him the cell phone, and a second suspect took the victim’s wallet from his back pocket. Both suspects then fled the area.
Incident #3: The third robbery occurred on Wednesday, August 8th, at 12:10 a.m. (just after midnight) in the area of Maple Street and Florida Avenue in Urbana. The victim heard what sounded like someone running toward him. Two subjects approached him, and one of the subjects pointed a handgun at him and demanded, “Give me all that you have.” The victim stumbled and fell into the street. The suspect with the handgun pulled the victim’s backpack off his body, and then kicked the victim in the face. Both suspects then fled northbound from the scene. The victim suffered a laceration in the facial area, but refused medical treatment while at the scene.
Suspect #1 is described as a black male, possibly 17 – 20 years of age, 5’10” – 5’11” tall, approximately 150 – 170 lbs., wearing a dark colored stocking cap and dark clothing, and was armed with a handgun.
Suspect #2 is described as a black male. Further details of this suspect’s description are not available, as he primarily positioned himself behind all three victims during the robberies.
The Champaign Police Department is seeking information regarding an armed robbery that occurred on Monday, July 23rd, at approximately 10:51 p.m. The incident occurred in the 1400 block of Hollycrest Drive, Champaign.
The two victims advised that they were sitting on the porch at a residence, when they were approached by a subject who stated he was lost and needed directions. He then brandished a small silver handgun and demanded money. The victims handed the suspect their cash, and the suspect ran south, along with a second subject who had remained near the street during the incident. The suspects were observed getting into a white Oldsmobile and leaving the area.
Suspect 1 is described as a black male, approximately 25 years of age, 5’8” tall and 175 lbs., black hair, wearing a white t-shirt and black shorts, and armed with a small silver handgun.
Suspect 2 is described as a black male, approximately 25 years of age, 6’0” tall and 170 lbs., black hair, wearing a black shirt.
On Friday, July 20th, at approximately 5:30 a.m., neighbors of a residence in the 200 block of South Poplar Street in Urbana, saw three subjects leaving the house. The neighbors knew the three subjects did not live there. When officers arrived, they found that entry had been forced to the residence. Some windows had pry marks on them, and one window was broken out with a brick. A computer monitor and other items in the house had been moved; however, no items were reported to have been removed from the residence.
As officers continued to check the area, they found that several units in a storage locker business in the 600 block of South Glover Street had been damaged and forced open with a pry tool. Items known to have been taken from some of the lockers include a 20" camouflage colored bicycle, a 24” black and yellow Huffy bicycle, and a smaller silver Schwinn bicycle. Some power tools and a camouflage colored guitar amp were recovered near the business.
The three subjects seen by the witness were described as:
1) A black male, about 18 years old, 6’ tall, thin build, wearing a dark sweatshirt
2) A black male, about 18 years old, 6’ tall, thin build, wearing a white t-shirt and red gym shorts
3) A black male, taller than the other two subjects, thin build, wearing dark clothing and riding a mountain bike.

The Champaign Police Department is seeking information regarding a bank robbery that occurred at Marine Bank, located at 1001 S. Neil Street, at 1:09 p.m. on Tuesday, July 17th. Bank employees reported seeing the suspect enter the bank. He was wearing a hat, sunglasses, and possibly a wig. The suspect then asked to speak with a bank employee about bank services. While speaking with the employee, he displayed a note, demanding a specific amount of cash. Although no gun was displayed, the suspect implied to the employee that he was in possession of a weapon. He was given a large sum of cash and left the area on foot toward the northwest. Five employees were in the bank at the time of the robbery; however, none reported being physically harmed.
The suspect is described as a black male in his 30’s, with a slender build and olive-colored skin. He was last seen wearing a tan or light-colored “golf-style” hat with shiny black shoulder-length hair (possibly a wig), a black button-down shirt, with a light or white t-shirt underneath.
Detectives are working to determine if this incident is related to any earlier robberies and whether or not additional suspects might be involved.
The Champaign Police Department continues to seek the community’s assistance regarding a homicide.
On Wednesday, July 4th, at approximately 10:24 p.m., Champaign police officers responded to the intersection of Thornton and Cruising Lane, in the Garden Hills Subdivision, for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers found a 20 year old Champaign woman lying in the intersection with a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to Carle Hospital ER, where she was later pronounced deceased.

The Rantoul Police Department is investigating an armed robbery which occurred at the Arby’sRestaurant, located at 760 W. Champaign Avenue in Rantoul, on Sunday, June 10th.
At approximately 10:30 p.m., Rantoul police officers were dispatched to the store after employees called 9-1-1 to report a robbery. Employees advised that they were confronted in the parking lot by the suspect after closing the store. Employees described the suspect as a black male, wearing a black “do rag” on his head, a handkerchief covering his face, and dark clothing. The suspect is described as being approximately 5’08” tall, with a medium build. The male displayed a handgun and demanded money from the employees. The male then fled from the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Champaign Police investigators are seeking assistance regarding a case involving deceptive practice.
The victim reported that nearly $7000 in fraudulent charges had been made to his Discover credit card and to his father’s Discover credit card. Both credit cards had been in his wallet. When the fraudulent charges were brought to his attention, he checked his wallet and realized that both credit cards were missing. The fraudulent charges were made on Saturday, April 14th, between 4:12 p.m. and 7:29 p.m. Items were charged at Lowe’s, Target, and the Wal-Mart gas station (all located on North Prospect Avenue in Champaign), as well as at Sears at Market Place Mall.
According to surveillance video, the suspects appear to be two black males. Suspect 1 is a black male, wearing a white ball cap, a black (possibly leather) jacket, white t-shirt, and faded blue jeans. Suspect 2 is a black male, wearing a
blue Under Armour brand ball cap, blue and white checkered polo or golf-style shirt, with light colored pants.
This week, Crime Stoppers and the Urbana Police Department are seeking your assistance regarding an armed robbery that occurred in Urbana.
On Thursday, June 14th, at approximately 6:00 p.m., Urbana police officers responded to a report of an armed robbery that occurred in the 1000 block of West Main Street. Officers learned that a white male displayed a knife and demanded the victim’s money. The victim gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of currency, and the offender got into the passenger seat of a waiting vehicle. The vehicle was described as a silver or gray car and was last seen traveling northbound on Lincoln Avenue from Main Street.
The suspect was described as a white male in his 20’s, approximately 5’8” tall, 150 pounds, and was wearing a black baseball cap, black t-shirt, and baggie jeans. The suspect also had a unique tattoo on his forearm, described as looking like the Roman numerals “II” (TWO) or possibly an astrology symbol.
The driver of the car was described as a white female with blonde hair, in her 20’s, short in stature, with a slender build.
Champaign Police and Crime Stoppers are seeking information regarding a burglary that occurred at Boneyard Bar and Barbecue, located at 25 East Springfield Avenue, Champaign. The incident is believed to have occurred on Sunday, April 8th, between the hours of 2:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. The owner of the business reported that a safe was forced open and currency was taken. There were no signs of forced entry to the business.
According to surveillance video, the suspect is believed to be a black male who appears to be in his 40’s and approximately 5’8” tall, weighing approximately 140 lbs.
University of Illinois Police are seeking information regarding a suspicious subject who was possibly taking photos of students in the men’s restroom of the Illini Union, located at 1401 West Green, Urbana. On Saturday, May 5th, the Illini Union was host to a “Mathletics” math competition, held for high school students from around the state. Several participating students reported seeing a suspicious subject standing inside the west hall men’s restroom on several occasions throughout the day. Students reported the subject appeared to be using a black flip-style cell phone to take photos of students standing at the urinals.
Subject is described as a white male, approximately 50-60 years old, wearing glasses, with gray hair with receding hair line, partially parted to the right side. He stands 5’5” - 5’9” tall, has a thin build and weighs approximately 140-160 lbs. He was wearing a faded light blue or green t-shirt, dark jeans, and shiny black shoes.
Champaign Police and Crime Stoppers are seeking information regarding the identity of a suspect involved in the aggravated battery of a jogger.
The incident occurred on Saturday, May 26th, at approximately 11:20 a.m. The female victim was jogging on a path near Mattis Lake, located in the area southwest of Fox Drive and Devonshire Drive. As she was jogging, a black male ran up behind her and grabbed her; however, she was able to push him away and outrun him. He ran behind her for a short distance, and then disappeared.
The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 30 years old, 6’2” tall, 230 lbs., braided hair covering his ears, and a muscular build. Please carefully review the composite drawing of the suspect and contact Crime Stoppers if you have any information regarding his identity.
On Friday, May 11th, University of Illinois police officers were dispatched to the U of I Main Library, located at 1408 West Gregory Drive, Urbana, in reference to a theft. Library employees reported that on different occasions between May 1st and May 8th, an unknown white male had removed three
advertisements from a locked wall display located in the tunnel that connects the Undergraduate Library and the Main Library.
The advertisements are part of a collection “on deposit” from the Advertising Council. All three advertisements are archival pieces from the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) collection and are described as:
• UNCF Transit Ad Cardboard, 11” x 28”, featuring a black male dressed as a doctor. Text includes “The Person Who Could Save Your Life Tomorrow…” and “A Mind is a Terrible Thing to Waste”.

• UNCF color poster – “Love: It Comes in All Colors”
The suspect is described as a white male with dark shaggy hair. According to surveillance images, in one incident, he was wearing a dark multi-colored short-sleeved button-up shirt, khaki shorts, and sandals. In another incident, he was wearing an American flag tank top, black and white athletic shorts, and dark
shoes. At the time of both incidents, he was carrying a backpack with dark shoulder straps.
The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office and Crime Stoppers are seeking information regarding a burglary.
The burglary occurred between the hours of 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1st and 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2nd. Unknown person(s) forced entry into a construction trailer located in the 100 block of Sunflower Drive in Savoy, IL. The area where the burglary occurred is in a newly developed residential area that is still under construction. Stolen were numerous power tools and similar accessories.

Champaign police are seeking information regarding a bank robbery that took place on Thursday, May 3rd at approximately 9:06 a.m. The robbery occurred at First Financial Bank, located at 1611 South Prospect Avenue, Champaign.
The suspect entered the bank and handed one of the tellers a note, demanding money. Bank employees did not see a weapon, but stated that the suspect implied he was armed. The suspect left the bank on foot in an unknown direction of travel, with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 28 years of age, 5’5” to 5’6” tall, 130 lbs. or thin build, with a “scruffy” goatee, and was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, jeans, and a black leather glove on his left hand.
Twelve employees were present in the bank at the time of the robbery. None of the employees were harmed.

Crime Stoppers and the Champaign Police Department are seeking information regarding the identity of a suspect in a battery incident.
The battery occurred on Saturday, March 3rd, at approximately 1:04 a.m., during the “Unofficial” St. Patrick’s Day event. The incident took place at Firestation, a campus bar, located at 510 East John Street, Champaign.
The male victim was involved in a brief verbal exchange with the suspect, who then punched the victim in the face.
The suspect is only described as a white male in his 20’s. A witness advised that the suspect may have been in the company of two or three additional subjects (no descriptions available). The suspect and other subjects left the bar prior to the arrival of officers.
The victim suffered facial injuries; however, he refused to be transported to a hospital for medical treatment.

This week, Crime Stoppers is seeking information about a series of incidents that have occurred in and near the Sandy Ridge subdivision in Mahomet. Over the course of the last several weeks, Mahomet Police have responded to reports of two stolen vehicles, nine incidents of criminal damage to property and two motor vehicle burglaries.
Residents in that area have reported cars and houses spray painted with graffiti, unlocked cars entered and property within removed or destroyed. The two stolen vehicles were left unlocked with the keys inside. Most of these crimes are believed to have occurred during the evening hours.
Several utility knives have been recovered that are believed to have been used to slash the upholstery within several of the victims’ vehicles. Several of the knives are bright orange. Two smaller knives are bright green.
