Credit Card Fraud
April 09, 2012

On Wednesday, January 18th, 2012, the victim lost her purse at Giovanti’s (401 East Green Street, Champaign) or in the immediate area.  Three hours later, her credit cards were used at multiple businesses and gas stations in Champaign.  Multiple purchases were made at the CVS pharmacy (107 West Green Street, Champaign). 

The attached photos were obtained from the cameras at that business and show the suspect using the victim’s credit card.  The suspect is wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with the number 85 on the back.  Please help identify the suspect or either of the other two men accompanying him.

Deceptive Practices
April 02, 2012

Champaign Police investigators are seeking information regarding the identity of a suspect in a case involving deceptive practices.  The incident occurred at Target, located on North Prospect Avenue in Champaign. 

On Wednesday, February 29th, the black male suspect used a cloned credit card to purchase an iPad, and attempted to make additional iPad purchases by using multiple other credit cards that were all declined.   The suspect left in what was described as a light colored Ford Crown Victoria passenger car.

Robbery and Attempted Robbery
March 26, 2012

The Champaign Police Department is seeking information regarding a robbery and an attempted robbery, both of which took place during the past week.

 

  • A robbery occurred on Saturday, March 17th at approximately 9:30 a.m. at the Circle K gas station located at 601 N. Neil Street, Champaign.  A female employee reported that she was robbed by an unknown male in the business parking lot.  The employee advised she was entering her car, when she was approached from behind by a white male subject.  The male grabbed her around the throat, causing her to drop a bank bag she was carrying.  The male picked up the bank bag and fled on foot.  According to witnesses in the area, the suspect may have run north and then to the west. The suspect is described as being a white male, tall (over 6’0”) with a thin build, wearing a dark blue or black shirt and blue jeans.  No suspect photos are available for this incident.       


 

  • An attempted robbery occurred on Friday, March 16th, at approximately 11:45 a.m. at NY Fashion, located at 301 W. Bloomington Road, Champaign.  A male subject armed with a handgun entered the store.  He was described as a black male in his 20’s, approximately 5’10” tall, with a thin to medium build.  He fled the business without actually completing a robbery, and was last seen running westbound from the business.  Suspect photos are provided below:

Two Buglaries--Champaign
January 30, 2012

Champaign Police Department investigators are seeking information regarding two related burglaries.

 On Friday, November 4th, 2011, officers responded to reports of burglaries at two adjacent businesses located in the 2900 block of Crossing Court, Champaign. (Crossing Court is located just north of the intersection of Duncan Road and Windsor Road in southwest Champaign.)

 Employees of the two businesses, CIMRO and Retina of Illinois, advised that the burglaries occurred between the hours of 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 3rd, and 6:00 a.m. on Friday, November 4th.

 Entry was initially gained to the suite where CIMRO is located. The suspect(s) then knocked a hole in a wall and gained access to the adjacent suite housing the offices of Retina of Illinois.

 Items taken in the burglaries were a computer monitor, a computer tower, and some cash from a petty cash box.

 No suspect information is available at this time.



Arson - Residence on Beardsley Ave. in Champaign
January 03, 2012

On Tuesday, January 3, 2012, at approximately 7:32 p.m., witnesses heard an explosion at a house located in the 600 block of East Beardsley Avenue, near Beardsley Avenue and Sixth Street.  The witnesses reported that immediately after they heard the explosion, they saw a burst of flames and smoke coming from the residence.

A possible suspect seen running from the residence was described as a black male, believed to be in his early 20’s, approximately 6’2” tall with a heavy build.  He was wearing dark-colored clothing, including a black hooded sweatshirt with the hood covering his head.  The suspect appeared to be carrying a red gas can.  He was last seen running southbound between houses.
